Western Blue Dive Charters offers scuba diving tours departing from Mindarie Marina in Perth’s north. If you don’t have an entire day available for diving, Western Blue Dive Charters are a great choice, with dives close to shore that finish up around lunch time.

Scuba dive charters are fantastic because they give you the opportunity to explore parts of the ocean you would otherwise not see. Western Blue Dive Charters even have a licence which allows you to catch your own crayfish to take home with you after your dive and since they have you back by lunchtime, you could even cook up your catch for lunch when you get home. It doesn’t get much fresher than that! 

Western Blue Dive charters leave from Mindarie Marina, which is great for people living in the northern suburbs because there’s no need to drive out to Fremantle. It’s awesome to be able to do a double boat dive and be back by lunch so you have the rest of the day to chill out at home, grab some lunch, or catch up with family. Maybe you work from home and block out the morning, go out for a quick dive or two and be back in time to put in some hours — whatever the situation there is no arguing that Western Blue Dive Charters are unique in this area. While all the other charters are heading over to Rottnest Island which is a fantastic place to dive, quite often it takes a whole day which might not be beneficial for everyone. 

The dive I went on left at 7.30am and we were only on the boat for about 20 minutes before diving in. The boat, SeaQuest, was built in Western Australia. It’s a 10 metre aluminium dive boat that can take up to 20 divers on each dive. In between dives, they have tea and coffee ready to go as well as sweets and snacks — we had Tim Tams on board as well as a container full of mixed sweets/lollies. 

When you scuba dive with Western Blue Dive Charters, you can bring all your own equipment, or you can hire everything you need at their store in Clarkson, not far from Bunnings. I usually head over there to hire scuba tanks. I have even purchased snorkelling gear from there because their store also has all that good stuff for your intrepid ocean adventures. If you’re looking to get your scuba diving certifications, they can also help you with that. 

About Gemini Shipwreck

Gemini Shipwreck is located about 14 kilometres north west of Mindarie Marina. Gemini was originally a barge just shy of 40 metres in length and was deliberately sunk in 1993 with the help of the Royal Australian Navy, Tamar Marine and others. As they sunk the Gemini, it turned, landing on its roof — so in the video when you see the top of the barge, it’s actually the bottom — they ended up cutting several holes into the surface to allow divers to venture inside. 

Gemini is about 30 metres deep so the dive is suitable for Advanced Open Water Divers and above. 

Scuba diving the Gemini Shipwreck with Western Blue Dive Charters

I scuba dived with Western Blue Charters at the Gemini Shipwreck in February, that’s summer over here in Australia. The visibility was amazing, probably 15 metres, which is pretty good, maybe even 20 metres — I could almost see the full length of the boat. 

I was partnered up with Phil, the owner of Western Blue Dive Charters, and we had ourselves a nice, cruisy little dive. I enjoyed the sights, all the marine life living in and around the boat. Lots of sponges and corals growing on the shipwreck. I watched the action as the other divers caught crayfish.
